The Theosophical Society was founded in 1875 by Madam Blavatsky. The main building contains a comprehensive library including an almost priceless collections of oriental manuscripts on both palm leaves and parchments. There are 165,000 books in nearly all the major languages of the world in the Library. Open to public from 8 a.m to 11 a.m on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. From the universal Temple, direct yourself south along R.K.Mutt Road, after you cross the Adyar river you will come upon, the International Headquarters of the Theosophical Society on your left. Set in more than 120 hectares of gardens, the World Headquarters of the Theosophical Society is a splendid old building surrounded by shrines to all the world’s great religious faiths.
